Today I Stand

You’re on the outside.
I’m on the inside
looking out.

You’re on the outside
always doing something:
I’m rarely in view.

You run when I am weary;
fight when I need peace.

You come in when I go out.
I race back, but, you’re not there.

You’re on the outside.
You could look in and find me.

I’m on the inside
not sure what to do.

I stop when you would go,
fail where you would win.
What I need
you have no interest in.

Today I stand my ground.
Come in or stay out.
It matters not.
