Instead Of Jesus

Who are Heaven’s residents?
Many lived and died to bring us only
Jesus Christ: God the Saviour King
Who set mankind free.

Is Heaven sorrowed when, instead of Jesus,
other names are borrowed to bless us,
protect us, ever our providers be?

Are the loyal hearts of such saints
pierced through when, instead of Jesus,
their own frail names (in some eyes) brighter shine?

Do they greatly suffer when sin-stained men
(though to God the greatest glory is owed),
look for, instead of Jesus, another sign?

Does Mary (blessed of all women) silent grieve
when, instead of Jesus, her name is used
to bless mankind through prayer?

Does Mary, most humble sinner, crave
what rightfully belongs to another?

Oh, gentle mother meek and mild,
do you seek your Sovereign’s crown?

No. Mary would not displace her first-born child;
she’d not seek His glory and renown.

So who would rob the Son of God?

All those who say, “Instead of Jesus,
name that building after me.”
“Instead of Jesus, place my name before
His Ministry.” “Instead of Jesus,
let another hear my plea.”

So say those who’d deny
God’s Heir His Throne…
as if He could not rule alone.

Blind souls! You stumble down a worn-out path
toward a dark and everlasting shame
where reigns an infamous and oh so wicked name.

Turn! Turn! Blindly, wildly, turn!
Turn around! Turn away! Turn back!
Shout out the One and Only Name
JESUS CHRIST
and know, thankfully and humbly,
we’re so undeservedly saved.
